Furniture Design & Curated objects

Interior design for hospitality properties and holiday homes, such as rental villas, cabins and apartments, where functionality, guest experience and practical maintenance form the foundation of the design. The atmosphere, materials, lighting and details of a space are designed as a cohesive whole.

Project management can also be included alongside the design process when needed. This may involve on-site coordination, scheduling and communication, as well as organising the practical aspects of renovation. For apartment projects, this also includes handling required documentation and alteration notices for housing associations.

When appropriate, the design process may extend to individual elements such as custom furniture, ceramics or curated objects that add another layer to the identity of the space.

Designer

Hello — I’m Sanni Mäntylä, an Interior Architect and Furniture Designer and the founder of Hiemal Studio.

Hiemal Studio was born from a desire to bring together my experience in tourism, hospitality and spatial design. For years I worked within the tourism and accommodation industry while pursuing interior design and ceramics alongside it. Gradually these different paths began to converge, which led to the creation of Hiemal Studio — a studio focused on designing curated hospitality spaces.

My background in tourism and hospitality spans more than ten years. During that time I have worked in various roles, from tour guiding to positions within travel and accommodation businesses, hosted my own Airbnb property, and taken part in renovating and maintaining rental cabins — including cleaning them myself.

Through these experiences I have seen first-hand how hospitality operations function in practice. From booking platforms and guest communication to hosting, maintenance, cleaning, durability and spatial design — all the elements that shape the guest experience behind the scenes.

An understanding of the full hospitality chain forms the foundation of Hiemal Studio’s design approach.

From booking platforms and guest communication to hosting, maintenance, cleaning, durability and spatial design — all the elements that shape the guest experience behind the scenes.

Alongside spatial design, ceramics has long been a personal practice. Within Hiemal, it can also become part of the spaces themselves — as objects designed specifically for the space, adding another layer to the overall experience.

Hiemal Studio combines functionality-driven spatial design into carefully considered environments where visual elements and spatial experience support the guest experience.
